Six million of Freud and Einstein's fellow Jews went to the furnaces. This was long after the letters, but that's one reason "why war." Freud's books were burned in Berlin, before he fled. Freud died in 1939. I don't know if he had further comments on war by then. Albert Einstein, who also fled the Nazis, later wrote other letters.
