re: Legacy Admissions are national socialism?

The name national socialism was discredited by what Hitler did, just as Communism was discredited by what Stalin did. Every time extreme left or right wing socialism has occured the results were so bad even the name became offensive.

We can say national socialism, corporatism, Fascism, oligarchy, whatever Franco, Milosevich, and the WW2 Japanese called their variation it all comes down to the same thing. State socialism and control to deliver special treatment to the aristocracy, the wealthy, corporations and other elites.

We can also say communism, socialism, Maoism, Leninism, Trotskyism and many others but they also boil down to the same thing. The use of state power to favour a special class, in this case the proletariat, the worker, the poor, etc. Fascism rose as a reaction to Communism, Communism rose as a reaction to Fascism. Hitler came to power to stop the Communists taking over Germany.

Bush and you are just as much socialists as the liberals you despise. The policies are identical, they just favour different people. The reason you hate them so much is because you see your own reflection in them. You want the government to do bend to your ideology just as much as the other side does. And if you claim you don't, you have no trouble supporting keeping it in power all the same.

And it usually boils down to the same old political aim every socialist has had throughout history. The Republicans want a double standard and special treatment just as the Democrats do. Everyone wants to be a hypocrite because it pays so well.

Legacy admissions of the children of previous graduates is a thinly veiled desire to give wealthier people an easier time, Bush himself took advantage of it. Other universities, often the same ones also try to give the poor or racial minorities an easier admission.

The system is the same, the reasons are the same, and the excuses are the same. The only people who lose in this tug of war are those in the middle.

Perhaps Mao said it best, there are no ideologies, only interests.
