re: Reality. It's a new world and it's an old world.

Well put-together points but the sacrifice I'm calling for isn't necessarily in the lives of our soldiers. Perhaps it's more in the citizens of the country that get to sit back and watch it all unfold on tv. Somehow we can go nation build and drop bombs and yet we have our political leaders calling for increasing the amount of oil we pull out of the ground. That's not the humble message that the WWII generation gave. They did the responsible thing and conserved. In recent years our per vehicle gas mileage averages have actually increased when simple logic says we should use some of those smarts you refer to to greatly reduce our consumption. So we can't have Hummers in our garages during insecure global times. Does our Americanism have to display the greed so profoundly?

We want it all. Is it that much of a stretch to see how that can anger other people in the world that get such a small piece of it all?
