re: The most important matter.....

is: Who is going to succeed Saddam at the head of Iraq?

A shiite Ayatollah?
There's Iran right next to Iraq, how about freedom of the press and women's rights and democracy?

A Sunni secular strongman?
Return to square one; replacing Saddam by someone not unlike him.
Goodbye freedom, here come curfew, repression, etc..
Some have said it's not Saddam who made Iraq, but Iraq that made Saddam.

3 leaders: one for the Sunnis, one for the Shiites and one for the Kurds?
Knowing how much they killed each other i the past and knowing what happened to Yougoslavia after Tito died, civil war isn't far in that case.

A true democracy? In that case, no one can stay a long time in power if he's corrupted by the western businessmen who want the oil while it is in Iraqi ground. Iraqis will demand a much better (if not total) share of the oil, the US troops to get out, and even nuclear energy plants, just in case oil gets depleted.

The US soldiers should better think about those hypotheses and knowing what's going on there, now, they should figure out if even a face saving sortie for the US is possible!
