It's obvious from hanging out on the internet and other places, that maturity and intelligence aren't anywhere close to the same thing. I've seen people with IQs in the high 100s that I wouldn't let watch my dog for an afternoon.

How about I rephrase it to "if 18-year-olds are so immature, maybe we should raise the voting age again." Better?

It doesn't change my objection to your original statement. Immature, idiots, gullible, victims, desperate, whatever. However you parse it, it's still an insult.
