re: When someone posts nonsense

What I'm advocating is a sense of perspective. A little less black-and-white, a little more shades-of-grey. There's nonsense, and there's nonsense.

To put it another way: if it were me, I'd save my stomp-with-both-feet vehemence for genuine attacks against scientific thought, such as creationism in public school instruction. The maunderings of Tibetan monks, reported third-hand and re-interpreted by a writer for the India Daily, is not exactly high on my priority list of "nonsense" to be refuted with quite the same venom as you've sprayed all over this thread . . . and I'm suggesting you take a fresh look at your own list of priorities.

And by the way . . .

I'm a big fan, if that's the correct word, of the Dalai Lama, and have learned a lot, even from a surface study, from Tibetan Buddhism. I have serious doubts about how representative the contents of the linked article are of that system of thought. Be that as it may, from an "anthropological" standpoint, that article says a lot more about the readership of India Daily than it does about the monks in Tibet -- who, if you will recall, have been living under Chinese oppression for at least as long as either one of us have been alive. For all I know, the "monks" whose "predictions" were reported in such a Weekly World News manner were puppets: window-dressing set up by the Chinese to draw tourists.

And also by the way . . .

So when ed posts his nonsense I can expect you to remain silent?

Pay attention -- I do remain silent, 90% of the time or better. I'm a firm believer in "Starve the Trolls".
