"Bottom line: The media need to check their sources and their facts before they run with a story. Too many times they jump the gun trying to beat their competitors to bring us breaking news."
If Newsweek is being truthful, then thats not the case. The problem is they performed due diligence, but were mislead by a source (that they had checked TWICE before publication). They did the responsible thing and retracted.
"when I took journalism classes at my college, they used to teach verifying your sources and checking your facts was a must. It was inexcusable not to. "
Okay, again, I call BullShit. Pure, unadulterated, intentional bullshit. They had a good source, they checked it, it checked out, they published. The source lied or hallucinated or whatever.
Now, its a massive Irony that you are so willing to brush off the GOVERNMENTS responsibiility to get the facts straight and check and double check, but are crying intentional foul at Newsweek for acting withing journalistic practices and getting burned.
The Gentleman doeth protest too much.
