The heart of the matter to me is that Newsweek, MSNBC, the BBC, and other major news sources have set as a goal the failure of Bush's policy in Iraq and elsewhere, and have all but broken their backs trying to find information to make this happen. This isn't the only example of something like this. It's just the first one to have major consequences.
As with Dan Rather's fiasco, the goals are obvious when you look at what items they will run with, based on very little real proof, and what items they will discount, or spike entirely.
Civil war in Iraq, riots in Afghanistan, and the rest are positive results in this worldview. "See? We told you this would happen."
The Abu Ghraib photos were the best thing to happen to the media for years. For a good time, compare the amount of coverage Abu Ghraib got over several weeks versus, say, the Iraqi elections, or the formation of a new government.
You can puff up in indignation, but if you do, tell me what, over the past two years, these news organizations would have done one bit differently if their purpose had really been deliberate sabotage.
Personally, whether or not the Koran incident actually happened is less important to me than the spectacle of the American media leaping on such incidents like a starving dog on a raw steak. IMO, they are still hoping to see those helicopters fleeing, and another nation that America tried to free falling back into darkness. Justification of their political philosophy and the destruction of Bush is far more important than anything else.
Even as I'm writing this, I can guarantee you that squads of reporters and leftist bloggers are fanning out and scouring the planet for more such incidents and proof of them, and I expect many more accusations against Americans about desecration of the Koran in the next week or so.

- Facts: Like Newsweek saying US troops burned the Koren (Qur'an) when they did not, which results in Afgan violence.
- LOL Now book burning is up there with death, torture and rape?
- Wow, REB. Get the facts straight- it was about flushing the Koran/Qua'ran/Qur'an in a john (plus, I love the Irony)
- Yes, Newsweek falsely claimed American troops had flushed the Koran down the toilet. I was thinking burned. You got me there you.
- correction
- Whatever. They caused violence in Afghanistan based on untruiths.
