re: I am curious....

Yes! People that are living by the borders can watch TV channels of other countries. For example if you are in south of Iran (by the persian gulf) you can watch tv channels of kuwait and bahrain and dubai, they mostly have american series and music. In other cities middle class and rich people have satelite dishes. there are some 150 channels, most european (german, french, italian, euro-arabic, etc..) and also cnn and bbc and discovery channels and animal planet and mtv stuff like that.

Once in a while regime cracks down on owners of dishes. they raid the houses and confiscate the dishes. Some 1 week later or something you can go to find someone in police who you can bribe and get your dish back. It's a cat and mouse play. Satelite dishes are banned in Iran but so was VCR 15 years ago.

I am not such a tv guy, I like to watch bbc world and discovery channel and sometimes cnn. I mostly connect to internet and print some stuff so i can read later. other stuff like movies and live shows youcan get the dvd for cheap price in black market.

You know inside our houses, we are mostly like westerners, we watch satelite tvs and listen to music. Outside is another story and we are forced to live like a muslim so we live in a double life every day.
