You now regret you clicked "post" on that one... ;-)

...I can only imagine what was in the original, harsher version.

;-)

Again, Robert I know you don't hate me, even if you hate my ideas or beliefs.

What I'm trying to point out is one can't even hate ideas or beliefs.

Let's talk about discrimination shall we?

Discrimination is both good and bad. Knowing not to drink the tap water in Mexico is a good form of discrimination. Discriminating wholesale against a race, to us, seems ridiculous. Experience and knowledge is often the determiner for our discrimination.

You should feel free to discriminate against my beliefs or the beliefs of rightwingers, but hating these beliefs is no longer just discrimination but something else.

Hate is hate. It taints everything and everyone who embrace it, regardless of their justification.

One can work against an ideology or a philosophy and hope to see it diminish, but hatred is not the way one does this. This is why wars start. This is why violence erupts. This is why suffering is propagated.

If a group of communists appeared, and another group of McCarthys hated their ideas, indirectly this hate would be transferred to their person. After all, people are what they think - more or less. So introducing hate into the interactions will more than likely lead to an escalation. The hate transfers and is multiplied.

Hate spreads like a disease. One should discriminate against ideas one dislikes or finds ignorant and destructive, but hate is something else entirely.
