Geek Speak » in reply to Hey, it's no sillier than Feng Shui, if you think about it.

Feng Shui, Mind Control etc.

Feng Shui is swell and fine if one believes in the common sense practicality of adjusting your abode to your environment. For some folks that may help them, especially if they believe in it. Belief is 9/10ths of the process. If you believe in medicine you're halfway to your cure before you even pop open a bottle.

I've never gone in for Feng Shui stuff because when one understands science and the mind, the mind trumps all those external influences.

You can live in a disharmonious slum and still remain unaffected if your mind is in the right place. Physical trappings, bed alignment, neat and orderly storage areas are peachy-keen but not all that important in the grand scheme of things. As a matter of fact, the mind can take disharmony and turn it into harmony. Setbacks are steppingstones for accomplishment when seen more accurately - from more than one fixed perspective.

As for the idea of mind control being silly, that's another fixed view perspective. Joseph Kennedy had no problem with lobotomizing his rebellious daughter. Our own culture has now used ritalin and a cornucopia of other mind control drugs to keep children and adults under control. Socially unacceptable thinking, whether it be suicidal depression, anger, rage, fear now all have designer drug cocktails prescribed to keep these thoughts in check.

Tom, America, Europe and their respective pharmaceutical giants are now generating billions of dollars per year in revenues by being in the mind control business.

Mind control is more profitable now than at any time in history. When you have such a financial motivation for controlling minds, research is funded to perfect and enhance such control. Do you really thing that folks aren't researching the synaptic processes and their relationship to depression or anger?

Do you really think that if synaptic impulses in the brain are found to have, for example, a varying range of frequency from 37-43 gigahertz that some company will not market devices that exploit that knowledge?

Not everyone in the medical research field is ethical. Rogue nations & their leadership constantly seek out knowledge that might give them a tool to use against other nations and to control their populations.

When the time and technology comes where these things are know, there will also come the exploitation. Then will come the companies with products exploiting others exploitation. And on and on it goes.

ESP and mind reading were considered mystical and therefore fake. The small mind reading that takes place between an old married couple never garners a third thought after the remark "I was just thinking that before you said it". No one bothers to think that maybe thoughts are oscillating in a field around the brain which are as easy to pick up as a tv signal if you are on the same channel. Without the science necessary to understand such phenomenon it merely gets thrown in with the other bogus claims, early 20th century spiritualists, gypsies, fortune tellers, etcetera.

No, the ability to control minds is real and machines have already been employed to this purpose with electroshock therapy. By interrupting synaptic processes with electric current 'doctors' found that they could delay the return of certain personal obssessions or thought processes afflicting a mentally disturbed patient.

This crude and barbaric method of mind control has its progeny in the selected electro-stimulation done to parts of the brain today. Given enough time science will map and measure the brain and it's activity much more accurately. Whether it be synaptic signals, brain chemistry or a combination of both - you can bet that there will be folks, nations and companies who will want to control others for their own gain.

At this point we can be glad we live in an era of vast technocratic and biological ignorance. Even though we may feel we are at the pinnacle of our game, from a clearer perspective, we can see it's all just beginning.
