Meat
Far too many people still think meat comes from a grocery store
Funny, just now I posted something to you about the barbarity of sport hunting in the absence of necessity; and I anticipated that you might come back with something like that, but I didn't figure you'd presciently post the rebuttal before I made my point. Wow, you're good, Tom.
But seriously, my ready response is this: Sure we shy away from the ugly reality of where food comes from. Just as we hide the reality of where food goes to when we're done with it, by putting doors on our bathrooms. Convince me that we should move all our commodes on to the front lawn and all "public" bathrooms out in the open in the town square, and you're half way to convincing me that we should "be honest" about where meat comes from. I'll see your carniphilia and raise you a coprophile.
I think that when you say "still" you have it backwards. The number of people able to forget where meat comes from is a measure of civilization, and that number's increasing, as it should. I look forward to the day when we have replicators to make meat and we can say goodbye for real to biological necessity.
