Plastic and paper

Your point on being able to carry more plastic bags is well-taken, especially as there is something genetic in men that renders them highly resistant to making more than one trip from the car to the house.

My Safeway does mostly plastic, too, but Nob Hill gives you the choice.

I used to use paper bags for recycling our newspapers until the city gave us the fancy, two-hatch recycle bins. I now have three bins: one for real garbage, one for garden waste, and one for recycling, which is split into two halves for paper and containers. Trash trucks roll in every week and a robot arm plucks these off the curb and dumps them into the proper hopper. Little girls could be garbagemen nowadays.

Scavengers come in and "harvest" the recyclables from the curb frequently. I don't know how the city feels about this, but I figure these people need the money more than they do, and until the truck picks up those cans and bottles, they still belong to me, not the city.

I've got no problem with legitimate sport hunters, and it should be remembered that long before "environmentalism" was a well-known word, hunting organizations and license fees supported conservation in many areas.
