What's the buzz on the right side of the street about Diamond? He's new to me, and though it seems as though he gores oxes all over the place, his basic POV as an ecologist is more likely to raise hackles on the Right. Are you holding back a negative opinion?
He's probably not that big a deal to the mainstream Right, but I wish I could get people like Lee to read him. He thoroughly pounds flat those notions of inherent superiority, beyond direct physical adaptation, and stands as a rebuke to racism. He sums it up with a rhetorical thought problem something like, "if you could have swapped the populations of the European/Fertile Crescent and MesoAmerican regions 10,000 years ago, would history have been significantly different?" He makes a pretty good case that the answer is a resounding no. Some people may see that through a political filter, but to me it makes objective sense. (But then, isn't politics all about seeing your own beliefs as objective truths?)
