A conceptual diferentiation between the forces attendant to 1.) power, 2.) force, 3.) authority, and 4.) violence.
They are all different words with distinct meaning. The clearest distinction of these meanings is given in the book Power by Hanna Arendt.
In a prison or an insane asylum power always is in the hands of the inmates. Force belongs to authority and society gives them a monopoly on violence to maintain this balance. When it gets out of hand we have chaos.
