Not in the Channel

Large warships, with little room to maneuver, would've been nothing but cannon fodder in the narrows of the Channel. Aside from not running aground on shallow areas, they would've been plagued by mine fields, coastal artillery, s-boats, and aerial attacks from Ju-87s, Bf-110s, Ju-88s, Do-117s, etc. They only effective ships for fighting in that area would've been destroyers, and I would hate to be on one of them if it struck a mine, or got smacked by a dive bomber.

Nick is right about the Luftwaffe straying from its main objective of attacking RAF facilities. Had they not been diverted, the RAF would've been wiped out within two weeks, and Britain would've been open to invasion. Another fine example of Hitler snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
