The current media critical of the Iraq engagement are using every word association (Vietnam), historic reference (mai lai) and the whole theory of wearing down the public with negative imagery, articles and a complete absence of the positive accomplishments.
In this case that is so much more amazing because we have done SO, SO much more in Iraq than we ever did in Vietnam and we have had far fewer casualties. If your point is that the left references Vietnam and the right references Vietnam in return, then your point is valid. But it seems you believe both sides are bringing it up and there is not a clear cause (liberal reference) and effect (conservative response) situation going on.
I still recall all to well the European articles critical of America because of our "detachment" from Middle East politics and conflicts and wishing we would get more involved.
One only need go back...what...8 years?
Now we have the "American imperialist" rhetoric bandied about when we interfere with some MiddleEast-Exploitation-Cash-Cow-Action (MECCA) sponsored by some Euro nation or Russia.
