The US military killed Zarqawi (great job - kudos to Bush and the US military for squashing this vile Al Queda bug) but they did not find him. Arabs found him. Arabs who hated Zarqawi enough to find common cause and collaborate in this project with the Americans, despite whatever other differences they have have with the US.
The most plausible theory advanced so far is that Jordanian agents, sent by a government furious with Zarqawi for his murderous bombings of three hotels in Amman last November, located the target, their delusional, megalomaniac, fellow-countryman-with-a-beheading-fetish Zarqawi, then passed the intelligence on to the Iraqi govt, who passed it on to the US military.
This intelligence from our allies in the Arab world, who fear Al Queda even more than we do, is what really killed him, not the 500 lbs pounds.
