re: 14

I did a thorough internet search. I have seen 13, 14, and 16 quoted with great confidence by many different people. I used only sympathetic sources. If you have the original script, by which I mean the earliest versions, I will defer to your reference.

The point was, even if it was 16, the sexual initiation of a minor by an adult was seen as a great thing by the cultural elite, and this isn't the only example.

To cut my position on this down to basics:

--Foley's actions were morally wrong, and his resignation was the right thing to do. It remains to be seen if he is in legal jeapordy.

--The information so far indicates that only the e-mails were known to other Republicans at the end of 2005, and that they confronted Foley at the time. The IM messages became known only about a week ago. The information so far indicates no wrong actions by Foley since the 2005 confrontation. All the messages to date have come from two or three years ago. Obviously, new information could change this, and more is coming out all the time. Testimonies are conflicting.

--The Democrats have a long history of supporting their own in very similar circumstances: Studds, Reynolds, and Frank being the most obvious ones. There are other examples of Democratic non-sexual criminality being tolerated. Heard anything about William Jefferson lately? Any demands for him to resign the House?

The Left in general has long supported deviancy as something to be admired. It was in this context that I mentioned the "Monologues" as an example. It's like the National Rifle Association complaining about the high number of shooting accidents.

Under these circumstances, the Democrats have no right to get holier-than-thou on this.
