It may come to that. I believe we are at war, and I believe we have to win or we risk disaster. What I don't believe is that Iraq is the place. It never was the place. And even if we level it flat it will not win the war. Perhaps if we had gone about it differently from the start it might have worked, I wrote a whole post on how I think the Bush team originally reasoned that out, and the plan was not without some merit, but it didn't work and I don't think we can win this war in that place now.
It's a tactical decision. I may be wrong, but that's what I think. The point is that I, like many other Americans, have differences with you over strategy, but you're convinced that means we want to surrender. Not only does that cost you allies, it does little to give us faith in your plan. You've confused winning in Iraq with defeating a world-wide Islamic conspiracy. Iraq only matters to those who've staked their reputations on it.
There are only two ways the terrorists can win, either they force us to accept their terms because they can hurt us and we can't fight back, or they starve us for oil by taking over all our sources of it. Nothing we do in Iraq is going to change that. It makes no difference what happens there, win or lose.
