As the Sun ages, it grows hotter. CO2 will be the least of our worries in the future. I believe it was Carl Sagan that said because of the Sun’s natural warming, the Earth could become inhabitable in a soon as 10,000 years. However, most figures I have seen give us longer than that.
We need to find a way to control the amount of Solar Radiation hitting our planet. Venus would be a good place to test out such technologies. Perhaps we could even terraform that world in the process.
The concept seems simple enough. Just block the extra unwanted solar radiation. Heck, I do that for my eyes when I put on my sunglasses. But we are talking about a planet. It is a humongous object compared to my eyes. Perhaps all we need to do is up the size of the sunglasses.
Blocking the sunlight from orbit is the way to go IMO. And if have control on how much sunlight gets blocked for every square mile of Earth, and we have the smarts, we could also control the weather as well as keep the planet cool.

- Serious question: How do they tell what the past tempature of Earth was from an Ice Core?
- It is impossible to tell anything about the earth at all...

- I still don't see why it's temperature dependent. (n/t)
- 'Heavy' water molecules will evaporate from the ocean at a different rate than light ones
- R.L. That makes sense; however, is that truely indicative of "global" tempatures or just "polar region" tempatures?
- A pretty good article at Wikipedia
- There are also small chemical differences in how differing isotopic water compositions react
- I knew that. I was just too dumb to think of it. (n/t)
