re: Global warming - NATO freezes

When a river changes its course, it has catastrophic local consequences. When something bigger than a river makes a change, then the consequences can be global. The warming current in the Atlantic is one of these. There are many. The pacific has important currents that must remain metastable to maintain our current climate. The Southern hemisphere has its own set of climatic concerns.

I'm particularly keyed in to the Jetstream (stepping away from the ocean for a sec). If it made a persistent change of habit, California weather would be turned on its head (and the weather in the rest of the country too).

I don't mean to downplay the importance of the piece you directed our attention to. I only mean to point out that the climate is like a huge but poorly made watch. Intricate as all get-out, and everything has an effect on everything else. There are a lot of tipping points that affect a lot of things that can tip. I would bet that we haven't even discovered/thought of the most important one yet.
