Oh believe me, I have no illusions that I'll change Tom and his like in any way. However, throughout history ordinary citizens have been worn down by political bullies until they eventually fall under their coersion. It's this slow wearing away of the desire to fight back, this rationalization that they're just blowhards, and an ignoring of them that emboldens these guys.
I think you're a bit naive to believe that Tom's entire intent was to engage the liberal media with his post. Let's look at this logically. If the Washington Post had truly irked him, wouldn't he have been better served to post to their site or write a letter to their editor?
Nah, instead he knows he'll get more of a rise out of us and, if he gets a reaction, he can point all the blame back at a couple of national papers that can't respond back. It's the cowards way of going about it. He will then tarnish anyone that responds with some connection to this evil media, the whole with us or against us crap. He also clearly knows the design of THZ and where contentious posts are supposed to be placed. Yet, time after time, he finds a way to weasel his slander of anyone not politically aligned with him into Current Events.
So excuse me if I don't find any justification in his posts and actions but I've given the man many opportunities to show some compassion to others and engage in fair and honest debate. He's taken the low road every time.
