It would be preferable if the teachers were armed, of course.
I'm not calling for policies to arm school personnel or students. I'm calling for policies that would not forbid a person from being armed if they wanted to be. I have no objections to rules and laws demanding carry licenses, training, and other reasonable restrictions.
The point is that an armed psycho entering what they are now calling "no-gun zones" (sometimes entire towns) can do so with the absolute assurance that he will meet no armed resistance from an honest person. Granted, a sufficiently suicidal nut would not be deterred by this--you can't deter a crazy person--but how many other troubled people, never mind outright criminals, might be?
The sky marshall program, however screwed up it might be, works under the principal that a hijacker can't be SURE that he's not dealing with armed "victims." It isn't necessary, or even desirable, to have a sky marshall on every plane, or a gun in every schoolroom.
