Probably due to this war equating with the Viet Nam war. The same group of politicians using the same tactics in hopes of troop withdrawal and opposing members sees it as surrender to al Qaeda.

Nixon convinced the South to signing a cease-fire and we left, which looked like we surrendered to the North and we know what the North did after we left.

al Qaeda will be the first to say we surrendered.
