as long as their soul mission was just military action. However REB, I'm afraid they will always have a political component to them and not only because of their chain of command (the Defense Secy's boss is the Pres) but also because distortion of the facts is a basic and valuable military and foreign policy tactic and has been used by all sides in every conflict in all of history.
Until you can prove to me that there is no political or military gain to the impression that WMD's existed in Iraq, I'm afraid I simply cannot look at anything that comes from the DOD without a grain of salt.
Since you seem to be on the right side of the political persuasion, would you grant that the DOD was completely truthful during Clinton's term? Carter's? Kennedy's?
Come on REB. Look beyond this one contention that there were shells, valid or invalid in Saddam's arsenal and look at the bigger picture. The facts are piling up deeper and deeper each day that we were flat out lied to and that an excursion into Iraq was a foregone conclusion had 9/11 happened or not. There is simply too much evidence to indicate deliberate distortions of the truth occurred from the administration and the natural extension is that the DOD supported the side of government their paychecks originated with.
