Is it worth it.

And I’ll tell you this Art, I am saddened by the civilians deaths. I knew some would died, but I didn’t think the fighting would go on this long. I thought the Iraqis would embrace freedom. I think most have, and those that are doing the killing are Saddam supporters, who enjoyed the good life under him, and Al Queada. But you look at most Iraqis and they want peace and freedom. Most are not part of the fighting.

There was this one picture of a little girl being carried by one of our solders. The solder was trying to save her life. All you could see where her little feet. It reminded me of my little girl about the same age. It brought tears to my eyes.

Its times like that when I wonder if it is worth it. Would it be better to live as slaves then to possibly die trying to be free? That little girl could have ended up as one of Saddam’s son’s victims. He was known to rape and kill young girls. The odds of that were probably high, but so were the odds of her being killed as a result of the war. I have to face the fact she would probably be alive had we not interfered with the country. She might have been going hungry like most of her countrymen, but she would be alive. Is it worth it?

Saddam murdered thousands. By getting rid of him we have saved thousands of more from being murdered, but are those who have died in the process worth it?

The cost of freedom is usually blood. It was that way for the Revolutionary War. It was that way to free the Slaves during our Civil War. It was that way to free Europe from Hitler. Is it worth it? Many lives could have been saved by never fighting any of those wars. Many innocent people would have lived had those wars not been fought. Were they worth it?

I do know it would be a crime for the world to turn a blind eye when they know a dictator is murdering his people. It would be wrong to look away and pretend Saddam wasn’t letting his people starve while he built palaces, or that his sons were torturing, raping and murdering people.

Live free or die. Is it better to live as a slave and live, or take a chance in dieing for a chance of freedom? I think I would take a chance of dying for my freedom, but someone else shed their blood for my freedom long ago, so I don’t have to.

Is it worth it? Is it worth innocent Iraqis dying to free their people from a tyrant and give them a better life? The whole reason I wanted America to invade was to free the people from a better life. I didn’t want thousands of them to get killed.

Is it worth it? I say yes, but then I see the dead children and I wonder if it is.
