I've remarked on it before, including somewhere in HZ... and it's not only the pride, but the independence.

Thing is, it's contagious. I've only lived in the Republic for a year and a half, but somebody caught me unselfconsciously referring to myself as a Texan the other day (and chuckled at it).

The apartment I just moved into has a flag bracket mounted on one of the porch posts. Guess which flag I first thought of to display in it...

There's another bumper sticker I've seen around here -- don't know the actual wording, but it's on the order of "Texan by Choice". That's how I feel.
