I was born in Vicksburg, MS, moved to Alabama when I was 9 so I feel like a native.

The CSA was a romantic fantasy but it would have been a disaster for both sides. Better it had nevr happened. The slavery issue would have resolved itself in due time and the stigma of secession would have been avoided.

I have read several so-so books by Harry Turtledove on alternat history involving the Civil War and while they may not be convincing they certainly show how messy a successful secession would have been.
