I worked for two extremely well-known lipidologists, M.D. researchers in the field, for nearly 20 years. I respected and admired both men and still do; however, I have disagreed with them on several items including low-fat diets when that was being recommended by renowned lipidologists.
I had nothing more than God-given instinct plus the ability to read, process and synthesize information. I always believed low-fat was not the way to go. As research has progressed, we know that it is a damned complex process. You have LDL subfractions, LP(a), fibrinogen, etc., etc. And now there is a component of HDL that may be bad for you.
Throw it all away! If you want to know how to eat for health, you need a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, lean meats, high fish consumption, particularly cold water fish such as salmon and tuna, NO SUGAR, NO FLOUR, no processed foods. You give THAT to your body and it'll take care of the rest, unless you are the unfortunate inheritor of familial dyslipidemia in which case they can now sift the bad stuff out of your blood every two weeks and lengthen your life. My former employer has numerous patients on Lipoprotein Apheresis and he's doing amazing work in totally unexpected areas, i.e. restoring hearing from sudden hearing loss, alleviating blindness, etc.. Lipid processing affects a lot more areas of the body than just the heart. It plays into Multiple Sclerosis.
The body is a whole unit. Garbage in, Garbage throughout. Good things in, healing results.
I know all this; now if I would practice it... I did for a year and the MS with which I was diagnosed was gone, lesions disappearing rapidly. I need to get back to it but in our fast-paced lives, and with so much stress, it's easier said than done.
