"Great White Hope for the Big Bang"
should read
"Great White Hope for the Steady State"
BTW, for those of you who may have missed the reference, it refers to the great black prizefighter Jack Johnson, who in the 1920s was embarrassingly defeating every white contender sent against him. The GWH was the Caucasian that was supposed to take him out, once and for all. He didn't. It is also the name of a biopic of Jack Johnson that was made a few years back, starring James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander.
The language has adopted the term "Great White Hope" as some event exected to "save the phenomenon", in this case, that whites are superior to blacks.
