If I took every herb, supplement, or other substance my friends recommended, I'd have to go around with a wheelbarrow.
A good friend of mine chugs down a baggie half-full of health-shop pills with every meal. An entire closet is full of white bottles. And believe me, he has studied the biochemistry and biological data to a fare-thee-well, and has excellent reasons for each one. If you're not careful, he'll tell you about them.
I take a "one-a-day" type vitamins, and maybe some basic antioxidants and D vitamins when I remember. I don't take "megadoses" of anything. My common sense tells me that a million years of evolution has set my system up to work fairly well on its own, and barring real issues, I'm not about to start changing biochemical variables at random, particularly twenty to fifty of them at a shot. Heck, what if my body "forgets" how to balance itself?
I also know people who get cranked up about "additives" in their foods, but routinely chow down on a range of supplements which, as I read the labels, amounts to going through a rain forest and taking a bite of anything you see that's green. Or red, or yellow. (Avoid the frogs).
