We're getting a little confused here
Robert — (archived)

Rob was asking about two threads, this one and the one from January 2007. The old one is well documented on debunking sites like snopes.

The other one is new, and originally consisted of a large number of photoshopped images apparently ripped off from around the Web. They were embedded in the email, so I couldn't post links to the originals, and I wasn't going to perpetuate the copyright infringement by uploading them to my own server for posting. Most have watermarks identifying the original site, but I'm not going to visit each site and track down the original.

The new one was sent to me by somebody who's not one of my usual Winger connections for this stuff. I had to laugh at you two insinuating that I made it up. There is no shortage of Republican Obama smears as it is, and the GOP is gearing up to make 2008 the Season O'Smears.

You may want to dismiss that as hype, and the smears as just the work of fringe groups, but hell, just yesterday I signed up at a mainstream Winger Web site to be a "publisher" of crap like that. My mission: "As a “Publisher,” your job will be to forward the email messages you receive from us to your own email list, and to work to increase the size of your list." Looks like I'm about to mainline Republican smears. Oh joy!

These vicious smears aren't an ad hoc grass roots phenomenon, and they're not at the fringes of Republican strategy. They are the Republican strategy. What else are you gonna do when you're fighting a desperate battle against hope and unity?
