You didn't bother trying to argue that Republicans actually have an upbeat and unifying message, you just dissed the Democrats.
And that's the 2008 campaign for Republicans in a nutshell. Behind you is a record of disaster, ahead of you is one Democratic Presidential candidate with a message of optimism and hope, and another who promises a complete break with Republican mismanagement. There really is nothing left for Republicans except to fall back on their traditional tactics of attacks and smears and general negativity. The GOP strategy can't be anything more than trying to scare Americans into believing that as bad as the last eight years have been under Republican rule, it could only be worse under Democrats.
Worse than George W. Bush is bad indeed, and America truly would be doomed.
