My understanding is that this site is interested in discussion of scientific topics in a rational manner. Am I to understand by the movement of this thread that such is NOT the case and that one user is allowed to "shout down" another with whom he apparently disagrees, while providing no substantive discourse that adds to the conversation?

Just wondering.

Since the original post was intended to engender a rational scientific discussion of the issues (magnetic reconnection, "frozen-in" field lines, etc.) and does pertain directly to space-related material (the Sun), I see no reason why the thread should not be moved back to the Space section of the forum and such a discussion allowed to take place.

If my assumptions or the papers/sites I've cited are incorrect, I'm happy to have mistakes pointed out rationally. I am not, however, willing to have dispersions cast upon my character in place of a discussion of technical merit. Habitable Zone is better than that, at least from my recollection of conversations here several years ago.
