re: "my circle"

The circle up here in the Blue Ridge near Asheville has become an interesting mix.
Developers have bought large tracts of land everywhere and are selling these "prime" lots for upwards of $200,000 an acre. These lots could literally be very near a trailer park that's just down the road. Usually because it's "no-zoning" and it's cheap. Everywhere you look down here, there are HUGE developments that are selling their lots....no homes yet. You need an architectural committee to approve your plans, so get ready to pay several million for that.

All of my realtor friends are HURTING. There are no mortgages to be had, and as many houses that are on the market, none are moving.

However CASH buyers still come through, and the best deals come through around $330,000 and UP. So the elite are still buying into this beautiful countryside and eventually the divide will be too great for the country family to survive. Already property taxes have risen uncontrollably because of the developers and the city council members on their side are padding their pockets with special interests.
This is turn, has raised the local property taxes beyond the reach of the locals and farms and houses are going for sale, because they no longer are able to foot the bill because of the greedy developers. Hell, Tiger Woods is building North America's largest golf course here, in a pristeen area full of historical families, farmland and vacant ridges. It's going to sit on our local water table and everyone's concerned with the chemicals that will be needed to keep the golf course lovely leeching into our water supply, just for the elite who will come here.

The disparity is growing. This even affects the "middle class"........what's left of them.
I think of Charleton Heston's movie "The Omega Man" more and more.
