Don’t forget there were Cylon Basestars jumping in and out from the Cylon colony. The Cylon Colony may have been destroyed beyond repair(questionable), but we do not know how many Basestars they had.
I agree that most of the Colonal ships would have been beat to a pulp. Very few would be worth saving, but I would have saved a couple of the best and scraped the others for their metals, parts and other supplies.
We never did see the Colona; ships actually go into the Sun. If they wanted to, the writers could always say that Anders decided he didn’t want to destroy himself and the rag tag fleet. They could even say Anders repaired the Galactica with the Cylon goo in her. They probably won’t, but this left them and out in case they ever wanted to revisit the show.
Our Earth is what the survivors were looking for. It is unlikely they would ever need or want a ship to flee the Earth, thou some may want to explore the Solar systems planets and the nearby star systems. I would have kept two or three of the best and scraped the rest for their materials.
