since you seem to be up on it

maybe you can resolve one of my nitpicks. In the weekly introduction it showed over and over that Balthar and 6 were apparently vaporized in the original attack by the Cylons. 6 would have been regenerated but what about Balthar? He appears as a physical being with no explanation of how he might have survived. This would reason that he was a Cylon himself but it did not turn out that way

I was a fairly loyal viewer throughout, but the series started to lose me with the 6 apparition that was constantly with Balthar. This was once explained to me as a hard wire (a chip?) but it turned out as goofy as it appeared, with both turning out to be angels.

You have covered the entire matter well and the final judgement is in. Even the final scene showing present day Earth proves the stupidity of their decision. Instead of using their technology and wisdom to build a better humanity they chose a path that has obviously led us back to the same problems.

It would have been far better to have been left with the idea that they at least tried but somewhere along the way failed, which brought us back to point A. With human dna already present on Earth, their choice was cultural suicide and it made them irrelevant.
