Almost every liberal here basically favors the government taking over health care costs. The theory, of course, is that a government-run program will be so efficient and inexpensive that the overall costs will go down. In fact, once market forces come into play, the costs will have to be kept under control (if at all) by rigid price controls on medical supplies, hospitals, practitioners, and others. This will be called "negotiating prices." As if you can negotiate when you only have one customer. Quality? Once you have the power, who really cares? It's not like Social Security provides a middle-class income either.
Anybody who addresses the deficit has to address the skyrocketing entitlements. At least Obama, in his speech, recognized that. Of course, he wants to add the largest entitlement of them all, so who knows?

Get rid of it? No. But just for starters, we could try not to double it.
