...but you ever think that the reason your mom needs 27 years worth fo surgery and operations is because the socialist system is filled with huge levels of incompetence?
I wouldn't get treated in a socialist hospital on a bet. In Germany where the care is probably the best in Europe, it still is a farce. Yes private alternatives exist and those are the ones that get the care. Visiting a socialist hospital is like traveling back in time - about 60 years.
Back in the sixties, already, when you had private insurance you would be ushered into a separate room. 30 people were waiting in the "socialized" waiting room and 3 people were waiting in the "private" waiting room. Sure you had the same doctor - but if you had cash or private insurance you were given better and faster care. It's a farce. The socialized system creates two classes of patients. The ones that get the best and the ones that no one gives a darn about.
And as recently as 2004 most of the hospitals in Europe still don't even have air conditioning? WTH?!! I'm afraid it the dark ages in Europe in terms of healthcare, and yet Europe is still light years ahread of the rest of the world. Sure, it's FREE. That's about the only thing it's got going for it. But public services have no need to provide the latest and the greatest. Seeing as how the public hospitals are too cheap and don't even care enough to even install an air conditioning system - which provides needed air filtering and temperature control for sick patients - that already speaks volumes about the whole 3rd world-esque nightmare of European socialized medicine.
