I get a barrel for trash too. But it is huge.
I can put 3 average weeks of trash for 2 people in it. I also have a barrel for yard cuttings (they compost the stuff) that (if I actually took care of these grounds - the landlady does it) would last several weeks. I also have a recycling barrel that, again, is huge. Far larger than a week's worth for the 4 units in this location.
To clarify: each unit has their own trash barrel. We share the compost and recycle barrels.
