Ah California circa 1980...
I remember the good ol days of human pick-up. Put out 20 big trash sacks - hey, no prob! Watch the truck with 3 guys and a driver pick up your trash and never leave anything spilled in the streets. Employment for many more people!
Then the machine grabbers came and the standardized waste receptacles. I don't remember the year clearly (neurons are unresponsive) but I think by 1992(?) San Diego County was already doing the automated trash pick up.
I paid for an extra barrel then when I realized the new barrels were about 3 or 4 Hefty trash sacks capacity.
You are very lucky to still have no limit.
Your potential for environmental hedonism and havoc is duly noted.
