Maybe we should be discussing government help for people who aren't insurable by other means, or the few millions who really want and can't get insurance from other sources or existing government programs.
My wife needed a state-subsidized private insurance program to buy solo insurance back when I had to do that. Many states have such programs. It isn't even federal.
Will insurance companies try to offload people into such programs? Probably. You can adjust the regulations for the programs to minimize this. Anyway, so what? How many would end up getting government assistance compared to the huge government takeover envisioned now? Which would use less taxpayer money?
When exactly did the conversation move from assisting people in the cracks to taking over the whole damn system?
This is exactly why it's evident that power is the most important factor in the Democratic push. There aren't enough needy people for targeted programs to deliver the political power they need. As Lee says, political motivations are obvious. You can tell by which solutions are embraced, and which are discarded.
