I can't rule out my machine is infected, but I believe it unlikely. My system administrator, Mme Reclus, has provided me with several antivirus packages, not to mention the Windows firewall, they are kept up to date and exercised frequently, so I think I'm in pretty good shape. More importantly, I don't notice this problem when using my default Outlook Express, but when I'm using one of my clandestine mail drops that I use for free, courtesy of several websites I frequent (like Yahoo). I always assumed that it was part of the price I had to pay for free backdoor email, to be forced to have my mail monitored and to be flooded with targeted advertising. In Yahoo, I've noticed it not only on the email, but in the Yahoo groups I belong to.
I don't really mind, someone has to pay the bills, although I do get kind of ticked off sometimes when the mail is dead slow but the spam seems to flow effortlessly, without interruption. The least they could do is let you have some program with your commercials.
