Information

The key, of course, is an informed customer. If you ask a libertarian to explain in one sentence what laws are appropriate in a free-market system, many will tell you "laws to prevent force and fraud." It's an oversimplification, but covers a lot of it.

A free market requires accurate information. As one example, most libertarians would support laws on truth in labeling. People should be free to buy snake oil, but by God if the label says "100 percent snake oil" on it, it better be 100 percent snake oil inside. And if there's nothing else listed on the label, there better be nothing else in the bottle. Omission is no excuse.

One great thing about the internet is that information is a lot easier to come by for the average person. Still need that high-powered internet BS filter, though.

I have an online subscription to "Consumer Reports" which helps me out sometimes, but they don't cover everything. Good resources are hard to find, and when I find one, I bookmark it.
