I have posted here numerous times about drug companies and their lack of ethical practices, but regardless the bottom line is this:
If the buying public is stupid enough to buy into all these prescription drugs (hang nails, depression, incontinence and impotence, etc.) the real push should be to create a smarter buying public.
I'm never shocked at the ignorance that infests the world and pharmaceutical companies and physicians can and will exploit ignorance and gullibility as the market permits.
At the same time, without a profit motive few drugs would exist at all. So the intelligent realize each must take responsibility for their own health and well being.
99 percent of prescription drugs are now seriously unhealthy and put huge strains on the liver and kidneys. The FDA is bought off and the doctors now "cure" by prescribing drugs - not the "real" inexpensive cure of lifestyle changes and common sense. The return visit for prescription renewal is primarily to see if the unhealthy drug is taking its toll on the patient and prescribing another.
The truth is at a certain age most people should realize all this. Like a child discovering there is no Santa Claus, a 45 year old adult should one day wake up and realize his 33 year old doctor might not really know everything about his/her health in a twenty minute visit and might not really care that much either. A child can live with the illusion of the adult world and doctor infallibility and concern, but that same illusion is downright dangerous and unhealthy after a person matures.
Physician and patient - heal thyself.
