The focus of all NASA Mars efforts, both surface and orbital, is the search for life - that's not my opinion, that's what I was told - and by the way, its what I tape recorded -
As to the efficiency of that search, I have no opinion - it's not my area of interest or of expertise.
As to what goes on here, personally, I feel like a heckler at a Nuremberg rally. The constant vicious lies that are told here about Goldin just automatically provoke some kind of response - It's not that I "love" him, or that I agree with everything he does, or think that he always made the correct decisions - It's just simply that it's not fair to the man, a guy who gave up a considerable income (and moved to DC from California) to serve the public -
One opinion I do have though, is that one of the reasons they're having trouble finding someone to let Goldin take a rest from it all is simply that no one wants to put up with the kind of crap which comes from Tumlinson et al.
Another opinion which I have (and one which I am sure no one else here will share, but that's okay) is that the next NASA Administrator will be less focused on sending men to Mars than Goldin is.
