As is well known in the NEO community, the answer to question one is that Yeomans down at JPL does not have enough money to adequately deal with the hazard.
That is the only correct answer - so who exactly are you trying to fool here by claiming to be a NEO expert, or even involved in the field?
The answer to question two is that no real work on NEOs is done at AMES - while Morrison writes a news letter summarizing the work of others, that work is done by others elsewhere, and not at AMES. And that's how it should be, given that JPL was assigned the lead role in dealing with the NEO problem -
Two NEO projects were funded by Morrison, but took place elsewhere, and not at AMES: first, Garschnik's (in Hawaii) analysis on recovery from impact catastrophe, and two, current work on recovering mega-tsunami evidence being done by researchers out of the Pacific Northwest -
Efforts to turn crater counts over to the general public does not count as real work, as the results are useless -
