You're just allowing yourself to float along with surface impressions of things. You have to look at what different political philosophies actually stand for, and you have to go by what they do, not by what they profess.
Just stop and look at the past fifty years and tell me what the Left has done for nations where it has finally acquired total control.
The issue at the bottom is collectivism vs. individualism. The Left stands solidly for collectivism, and the Right, ostensibly on the side of individualism, hasn't been doing that hot a job of representing it lately. Still, the lesser of two evils.
