Assent to taxes
<BTW: Serfs couldn't vote and couldn't give their assent to taxes; Americans vote and have given their assent to our tax system through their elected representatives.
The number of people who pay little or no taxes vastly outnumber in this country those who pay huge amounts of taxes. Yet they all get one vote. It doesn't take a math whiz to figure out how this will end up, particularly with a political party that gleefully encourages taxing the hell out of the "rich" and passing the dough around to the "poor." Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for lunch.
